With us, everything is really stress-free and completely relaxed. During the examination, we will treat you sensitively, empathetically, and above all discreetly. Relax.
The initial examination takes place without special preparation of the patient. During the initial examination, in a confidential interview the doctor takes a medical history, asking about symptoms and difficulties and previously diagnosed venous and arterial diseases and other diseases for which the patient has been treated to date. We ask about family history of vascular disease.
We first examine the patient standing and then the examination continues on the bed. The examination begins with a look (with a white light) at the skin of the lower extremities, where we note the temperature, skin colour, pigment changes and changes associated with leg ulcers.
This is followed by a palpation. The examination must not be painful. This is followed by a colour Doppler ultrasound examination – which is painless – and the doctor then draws up a venous protocol with vein mapping and determination of the degree of chronic venous disease according to the CEAP classification. It takes about 15 - 30 min. In the venous protocol, vein diameters are measured, reflux is determined, and pathological veins are targeted. If the arteries of the lower limbs are examined, we also add – at the discretion of the doctor – the measurement of ABI indices to determine the severity of lower limb ischaemia.
Once the venous protocol is developed, the doctor will propose a course of treatment to the patient with a suggested price for the procedure, while receiving informed consent for the procedure in advance. In the consent, the patient is informed in detail about the preparation, the procedure and possible complications. The patient takes away a medical report, venous protocol with mapping, and a signed informed consent from the doctor so that he/she can read it at home. In case of the need for further examinations of the arteries, we will issue an order form for a CT or MRI scan, and the patient will make an appointment.
The patient will bring the following to the procedure:
1. medical finding
2. venous protocol
3. informed consent, which is signed at the reception desk on the day of the procedure
