We try to minimise the stress of the first proctological examination that we often observe in patients. In the pleasant family environment of the Proktovena by Dr. Ištok centre, we approach our patients sensitively, empathetically and especially discreetly, and thus the examination becomes just an ordinary memory.
The initial examination takes place without special preparation of the rectum. There is only a doctor and a patient in the office. During the initial examination, in a confidential interview, the doctor takes a medical history, asking about symptoms and difficulties and previously diagnosed bowel and rectal diseases and other diseases for which the patient has been treated to date.
Subsequently, the examination continues on the bed, where the patient lies on his left side with his legs bent. The examination begins with a look (with white light) at the perianal area. This is followed by a palpation examination. The doctor will examine the area around the anus, which must not be painful.
It continues with a „per rectum“ examination, where the doctor gently penetrates the anus with a finger under gel anesthesia and examines the anal canal and part of the anus up to a height of about 5-8 cm. In the case of a very painful anus, the doctor examines the anus under local anesthesia or does not continue with the „per rectum“ examination.
With the first examination, the doctor is partly able to establish the diagnosis and degree of the disease. For a more perfect determination of the degree of the disease, we then order patients for a rectoscopy at the second appointment, after preparation. In some (clinically clear) cases, we can perform a rectoscopy even without preparation, thus minimizing the number of examinations and ordering the patient immediately for outpatient surgery without hospitalization and without general anesthesia.
The doctor proposes to the patient a treatment procedure with a price proposal for the procedure, while receiving informed consent for the given procedure in advance. In the consent, he is informed in detail about the preparation, procedure and possible complications. From the examination, the patient takes away the medical findings and the informed consent signed by the doctor, so that he can study them at home.
The patient will bring to the procedure:
1. medical report
2. informed consent, which he will sign at the reception on the day of the procedure
